Not idling can be caused by a number of issues. I'd start by cleaning the throttlebody and check for vacuum leaks. Body by Holden, Soul by Brock.

Check the firing order, if not then check compression on the failing side. If it were a carb issue you would have two cyl on each side out.

Just swap the whole 302, it's a much better engine than the AMC 304. If you are dead-set on Ford MPFI, then swap engines. If you are dead set on running the 304, different fuel system.
